Ways to Support CLA
In a climate of diminishing state support for public higher education, private donations are becoming more crucial in helping the College of Liberal Arts maintain and enhance the quality of its many excellent programs in the Fine Arts, Social Sciences, Communications, and Humanities.
A key development goal is increasing our endowment giving. While all gifts to Auburn University contribute to the high quality of education, research, and outreach, endowed gifts are particularly meaningful because they provide a dependable, perpetual source of funding. It is a gift that keeps giving. Instead of the entire amount of the gift being spent outright, the gift is invested and a portion of the interest earned is used immediately to support the college while the principle grows continuously. Endowments may be established to support student scholarships, endowed chairs and professorships and funds for excellence which provide funding for lecture series, programs, outreach opportunities, study abroad initiatives, and much more.
Other giving opportunities that greatly impact the college are:
Annual Giving
Annual Giving
Annual giving is an essential component for the continued growth of the College of Liberal Arts. They provide immediate resources for student scholarships and fellowships, faculty recruitment, program support, facilities, equipment, or any one of our leading areas of research. Our donors range from new graduates and young alumni to benefactors who have contributed to the college for decades. A significant portion of our annual funding comes from our phone and mail campaigns. A positive response to these two programs increases the resources for sustaining and enhancing innovative, creative programs and recruiting and retaining outstanding students and faculty.
“I believe in the power of a single pebble and the ripples it makes across the
water, so I hope my scholarship, in honor of my father, will inspire other
Liberal Arts alumni to consider what impact they too might try to make in the
life of just one student.”

Company Match
Company Match
Many corporations match the contributions their employees make to charitable or educational organizations. Some companies double or even triple each dollar contributed. Participating in a corporate matching gift program is an excellent way to increase the size of your gift to Auburn University and the College of Liberal Arts and enables you to create greater opportunities for students and faculty. Check your company’s matching gift policy.
“SunTrust Bank has been generous to match my gift to the College of Liberal Arts. My pledge can be fulfilled twice as fast when my employer makes a matching gift! It’s a win-win proposition to maximize my contribution to Auburn!”
Laura Young Palmer
By joining the College of Liberal Arts Dean’s Club your annual gift of $1,000 or more provides not only much-needed scholarships but also help sponsor the Distinguished Faculty Lecture Series.
Many people would like to make a larger charitable gift to the College of Liberal Arts, but concerns about personal and family financial security may make such gifts impossible. Planned or “deferred” gifts, such as life insurance, bequests, and charitable trusts, allow a contribution to the college while often giving the donor significant lifetime benefits in return. Our Office of Planned Giving has carefully designed plans to assist donors in making meaningful gifts, while satisfying other important financial concerns.
As you can see there are a variety of ways to support our college. Contact the College of Liberal Arts Office of Development at (334) 844-1483 or libart1@auburn.edu to discuss the many options for giving.
