The College of Liberal Arts Names Diversity Officer
Garnetta (Chichi) Lovett, an assistant professor in Art, is the Diversity Officer for the College of Liberal Arts.
“The College of Liberal Arts, as well as the community, will benefit from Chichi's experience and her new position because there is a fundamental connection between academic excellence and diversity in the 21st century. Diversity as an integral resource will help to ensure our place as a world class university,” Dean Anna Gramberg said.
Lovett’s responsibilities as the college’s diversity officer will be to serve on relevant committees, co-spirit relevant projects, coordinate the college and departments diversity programs, to work with the Office of Diversity as the CLA liaison, and to review materials related to diversity, with an eye toward curricular matters where appropriate.
“I will utilize my research experience, which has always involved the community in the most inclusive sense of the word, to enhance the research and learning opportunities for CLA faculty and students through meaningful interactions with our communities,” Lovett said. “Ideally this will provide our faculty and students with enhanced opportunities for their outreach/teaching/learning while creating needed and sustainable partnerships with our communities by providing expertise as requested or identified, often in areas that are underserved.”
