Communication

Position: The Department of Communication and Journalism at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure track position as an Assistant Professor of Communication beginning Fall Semester 2010.

Responsibilities: Teach all levels of Communication courses as well as supervise graduate student theses. Perform other customary duties of a faculty member including research and scholarly activities, advising and service.

Qualifications: Successful applicants must have a Ph.D. with an emphasis in Communication by the August 16, 2010 start date. (ABD applicants will be considered, however, appointment to the tenure track position at the rank of Assistant Professor requires the PhD. Communication Disorders | Assistant Clinical Professor

Position:   Twelve-month non-tenure track audiology clinical faculty position at the Assistant Clinical Professor  rank.

Qualifications: Minimum qualifications include: An earned  Doctor of Audiology degree (AuD), CCC-A, 3-5 years of clinical experience, ability to supervise cases across all types of auditory  disorders and with children and adults.  Clinical supervision experience desired.

Responsibilities: Responsibilities include supervision of graduate and undergraduate students in clinical practice in on-and off-campus sites including direct supervision of student interactions and evaluation of student performance.  Some class room teaching a possibility. The candidate is also expected to participate in departmental committee structure and engage in clinically related professional activities such as innovative clinical program development, scholarly collaboration with other faculty, and participation in professional activities representing the department at regional and national levels.  The university has a clinical career ladder for faculty who engage in clinical instruction.  The clinical career ladder includes a structure for promotion as the faculty member exhibits professional productivity and develops a regional/national reputation in the clinical field.

General Information:   The main campus of Auburn University is located in Auburn, AL.  Situated in  the east-central portion of the state, where the Piedmont joins the Coastal Plain, this region experiences mild winters and otherwise moderate temperatures.  University enrollment approximately 24,000 students and the Auburn and Opelika metropolitan area has more than 120,000 residents.  The university is located 35 minutes from Columbus, GA; 50 minutes from Montgomery, AL and 90 minutes from Atlanta, GA and Birmingham, AL.  Auburn is less than 4 hours from  Florida's Gulf Coast, which offers some of the most beautiful beaches in the country.  The department is housed in the College of Liberal Arts and has approximately 110 undergraduate students, 40 masters students in SLP and 35 AuD students.  Presently, the department has 15 full time faculty (12 doctoral  level and 3 masters level).  The Department of Communication Disorders has been accredited in both Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology for over 40 years and is a nationally respected training program.

Foreign Languages & Literatures | Assistant Professor
18th and 19th Century Spanish Peninsular Literature

The Department of Foreign Languages and Literatures of Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor of Spanish with specialty in 18th and/or 19th Century Spanish Peninsular Literature to begin Fall 2010. The successful candidate will be able and willing to teach graduate literature courses in both areas indicated above as well as all levels of undergraduate Spanish including Business Spanish, Civilization, Literature, and Translation. Teaching load is five courses per year.

History | Assistant Professor
Early Modern British History

The Department of History at Auburn University invites applicants for a tenure-track position at the rank of assistant professor in the history of early modern Britain and its empire before 1750, specialization open. The appointment will begin August 16, 2010. Trumpet

Rank/Salary: Assistant Professor, full-time, tenure-track. Salary commensurate with experience. Final appointment is contingent upon funding.

Duties: Recruit and teach trumpet to music performance and music education majors. Additional assignments may include teaching brass methods, coaching chamber music, directing jazz ensemble, and teaching courses in other area(s) of expertise.

Theatre | Assistant or Associate Professor
Scenic/Lighting Design

POSITION: The Department of Theatre at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama invites applications for a tenure-track position as assistant or associate professor of scenic and lighting design beginning fall semester 2010.

RESPONSIBILITIES: Teach courses in scenic design, lighting design, design aesthetics, scene painting, rendering and other courses as assigned, design sets and/or lights for departmental productions in an active undergraduate (BA/BFA) theatre program. Participation in student advisement, recruitment and departmental/university committees required. For advancement at Auburn, faculty must stay active in professional work beyond the academic setting.

QUALIFICATIONS: MFA in scenic and lighting design with at least three years university teaching experience and professional experience beyond the academic arena required. We are especially interested in candidates with additional skills in scene painting, hand and computer drafting, rendering, and membership in United Scenic Artists.

Theatre | Technical Assistant Director I/II/III
 

Job summary: The individual in this position plays a key role in the construction and completion of all non-costume design elements for all Auburn University Theatre productions. This individual also assists in meeting technical needs of non-AU Theatre performance groups using the university theatre facility, including staffing and running technical aspects of performances by outside groups. The Assistant Technical Director assists the Technical Director in training students in the proper use of power tools and equipment and helps to promote a safe working environment for students and part-time workers by example. The Assistant Technical Director also assists in overseeing student crews during technical rehearsals and performances, in maintaining production and rehearsal facilities, and serves as master carpenter for a minimum of six productions housed in two theatres.

Min. Qualifications: The minimum qualifications are a high school diploma or equivalent and three years experience in technical theatre support and/or scene construction for a theatrical production. ?Employer will consider advanced degrees in lieu of experience. Proficiency in CAD, theatrical rigging, carpentry and welding are required. Strong collaborative, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Auburn University Theatre invites applications for a full time renewable (for a maximum of five years) non tenure-track position as Instructor of Dance beginning Fall Semester 2010. Teach all levels of ballet, jazz, and music theatre repertoire in strong theatre program with established music theatre degree track and growing dance minor. Additional duties include choreographing main stage music theatre productions and advising dance minors. Opportunities to choreograph/perform in department dance productions. B.F.A. in Dance with a minimum of three years college teaching required. M.F.A. in Dance, college teaching experience and prior record of artistic achievement including professional experience beyond the academic arena preferred. Experience as a dance instructor in a music theatre degree program strongly desired. Ability to collaborate as a member of a well established artistic team essential.
