College Technology Information and Policies
This page is dedicated to general information about computers and policies developed to guide any kind of computer use within the college.
Faculty Need to Be Aware of Agreeing to Contracts or Online Agreements.
A new statement from legal council is urging faculty to think before agreeing to software or other teaching-related services. For more information, visit the legal page of the IMG. In particular, note the pdf file that gives a checklist of what needs to be considered before agreeing to anything.
Laptops for Check-Out: The College has a couple of latops faculty can check out for short periods of time (weekends, conferences, summers away from Auburn). These laptops are given out based on first come, first served. Faculty who borrow a laptop sign a Laptop Usage Agreement (pdf).
IPods for Check-Out: For the Italian Study Abroad Program, students check out ipods already loaded with content about their program: cultural information, itineraries, audio files, and other items of interest. Students are required to sign an Ipod Usage Agreement (pdf)
New AU OIT Policies and Their Consequences to Faculty and Staff
In Spring 2007, Auburn's Office of Information Technology added some new policies to address the concern that the university needs to strengthen its efforts for better security of data and for a better understanding of such security. The following links will take you to the individual new policies:
- Banner System Access and Security Policy

- Computer Authentication Policy
- Electronic Data Disposal
- ERP Data Integrity and Access Policy
- ERP Data Protection Policy
- ERP Sensitive Data Policy
- AU Network Terms and Conditions Acceptance Policy
Note in particular in the AU Network Terms and Conditions Acceptance Policy the agreement users need to agree to. This agreement is done in two ways: either when users log on to computers (they have to agree to the terms and conditions before they can log on to the computer) or users sign a Terms and Conditions Acceptance document that is kept on file.
Please find a copy of the Terms and Conditions Acceptance document online.
Note also in the Computer Authentication Policy that all computers on the Domain (users log on with their global userid and password), a screenlock is activated after 30 minutes of non-activity. Only the user who is logged on to the computer can unlock this screenlock with her/his password; if the user is not around, the computer may be restarted, but this means that any changes not saved by the previous user will not be saved.
IT Code of Ethics
Starting April 2005, all CLA IT staff members who work with faculty, staff, and students will read and sign a Code of Ethics Statement that indicates their understanding of ethical behavior in connection with computer and file contents and potential dangers. A sample of this code is accessible here. All signed copies are part of the staff members' personnel files.
