History of the College of Liberal Arts
The College of Liberal Arts is Auburn's oldest and largest school and the largest liberal arts college in the state of Alabama with a long tradition of quality education and instruction. The College is composed of 12 departments that are divided into the four academic areas of Fine Arts, Humanities, Communications, and Social Sciences. The School of Fine Arts contains the departments of Art, Music, and Theatre. Departments offering studies in the Humanities are English, Foreign Languages and Literatures, History, and Philosophy (including Religious Studies) . Departments in the Communications include Communication Disorders, Journalism, and Communication. The Social Sciences are offered in the departments of Political Science, Psychology, and Sociology/Anthropology and Social Work. Overall, there are more than 40 majors offered in the twelve Liberal Arts Departments.
