CLA Civic Literacy YouTube Contest Guidelines
College of Liberal Arts Civic Literacy YouTube Contest
Interested in winning $500 for best video in the College of Liberal Arts Civic Literacy YouTube contest?
Sponsored by the CLA Community and Civic Engagement Initiative, the 2010 Civic Literacy YouTube contest invites students to grab a video camera and capture Auburn University’s commitment to civic literacy in action.
Civic literacy—the use of writing, reading, and speaking abilities to actively participate in your community for positive change— is the cornerstone of engagement with public and political life. These abilities, coupled with a willingness to use them toward civic purposes, are essential to participation in our democratic society.
So what do Auburn students write, read, say, do, and create that contributes to the public good beyond the classroom? How do they connect to their communities, whether local, regional, national or international? What do we need to do to get more students invested and involved?
And why do we want to know? Because Auburn University and the College of Liberal Arts are committed to community and civic engagement and proud of the ways in which students contribute. Whether volunteering at the local food bank or animal shelter, tutoring children with learning disabilities, encouraging voter registration, or finding ways to bring the university and community together, Auburn University students can set a standard for civic literacy in action.
Further information about the contest is available at 315 Tichenor Hall. For more information about the College of Liberal Arts Community and Civic Engagement Initiative, go to http://media.cla.auburn.edu/cla/civic_engagement/.
