For the past 20 years, Margaret has taught Public Relations at Auburn University. During that time, the program has progressed from offering only two PR classes to being one of two accredited PR programs in the state of Alabama.
As a recognized scholar in listening and the cognitive processes of message interpretation, Margaret has served as an expert witness in several civil litigations and has been interviewed by such publications as Today’s Supervisor and The Public Relations Strategist.. In addition, she has published numerous scholarly articles and book chapters. Her articles have appeared in The International Journal of Listening, Journal of Applied Training and Development, Public Relations Review, Teaching Public Relations Monographs, and the Journal of the Southern Communication Association.
Currently, she is working on research in listening fidelity, listening and cell phone usage and cross-cultural aspects of listening. In addition she has a contract to write a new textbook on listening as a co-author.
She is also involved in public relations research with the other PR faculty at Auburn. Their current projects are focusing on community relations used by universities and the state of PR education.
She graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University with B.A. and M.A. degrees and received her Ph.D. from the University of Oklahoma. While in Soonerland, she met and married Jerry Hauser. Jerry is a private practice attorney and they currently reside in Auburn.
In addition to her faculty position, Margaret is a partner in the Leadership Communication Group and works as a trainer and consultant. She has presented seminars on all aspects of human communication, particularly in the realms of image management, leadership development, and skill development. Margaret has worked for over 30years as a trainer, facilitator and consultant with many for-profit and not-for-profit organizations.
