Checklist for Applying for Graduate Study

Applying for admission to our graduate program requires that you submit several documents to both the Graduate School and the Department of Communication and Journalism. The following is a checklist you may use to make certain you complete the application process. Be very careful to send the documents to the proper office, since misrouting forms (or failing to send them altogether) will unnecessarily delay your application and/or admission.

NOTE: It is the applicant's responsibility to make certain that the applications are complete. The student will not be notified by either The Graduate School or the Department of Communication and Journalism if s/he has an incomplete application packet.

Send to the Graduate School:

  1. Completed application to The Graduate School and fee payment (you can apply on-line at http://www.grad.auburn.edu/).
  2. GRE scores. The Department will not admit students who have not taken the GRE; an application will not be considered complete until official GRE scores have been reported.
  3. official transcripts
  4. TOEFL scores (international students only)
  5. Financial Statement (international students only

SEND TO THE DEPARTMENT OF COMMUNICATION AND JOURNALISM:

  1. Three letters of recommendation (have recommenders send their letters directly to the Graduate Program Officer in the Department of Communication and Journalism).
  2. The completed Recommendations Review Waiver form.
  3. Statement of Purpose, which should be a one-page essay explaining why the applicant wants to pursue an advanced degree in Communication.  The applicant should specifically address their educational and career goals and how a masters degree from the Department of Communication and Journalism will aid them in pursuit of these goals.
  4. Teaching Assistantship Application Form (only if you want to be considered for a teaching assistantship).
