Financial Assistance
A number of assistantships, such as Graduate Teaching Assistantships and Graduate Research Assistantships, are available through the Department of Communication Disorders. These range from small awards to sizeable stipends depending on the job responsibilities and time allotted per week. Most appointments reduce out-of-state tuition to in-state levels.
To be considered for a departmental assistantship, complete and return the enclosed Application for Assistantship to the Director of Graduate Studies. Financial awards are used to recruit students of high academic caliber, as evidenced by grade point average and scores on the Graduate Record Examination. Weighting also is given for out-of-state students and those with financial need.
To receive full financial consideration, all application materials must be received no later than February 15st for students starting in the fall semester. Most awards are granted for a duration of one calendar year.
The nearby Veterans Administration Hospital in Tuskegee, Alabama, provides V.A. traineeships to Auburn students through a cooperative scheduling arrangement. The Department Head usually recommends students with an interest in neuropathologies for the speech positions; audiology traineeships also are available. A personal interview may prove helpful.
Students may also apply for four basic types of financial assistance from Auburn University: grants, scholarships, employment, and loans. Application packets are available from the Office of Student Financial Aid, 203 Martin Hall.
