Anna Riehl

Anna Riehl, Assistant Professor, received her PhD from the University of Illinois at Chicago. She specializes in early modern literature and culture, particularly Shakespeare. She is currently working on a book manuscript titled The Face of Power: Early Modern Representations of Queen Elizabeth I. As a curatorial assistant, she helped organize “Elizabeth I: Ruler and Legend,” a public humanities exhibition at the Newberry Library in Chicago (2003-2004). Her research has received support from the American Association of University Women, University of Illinois at Chicago, and the English-Speaking Union.

Her teaching interests lie at the intersection of early modern literature, visual culture, history, and cultural studies and include undergraduate and graduate courses in Renaissance literature, as well as specialized courses on the body, visual culture, Elizabeth I, and magic in early modern England.
