Assistant Professor | Eighteenth Century British Literature and Culture

The Department of English at Auburn University invites applications for a tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor in long Eighteenth century British literature and culture, to begin fall semester 2009. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

The teaching load is 3-2, with assignments in upper-division and graduate literature courses as well as in the core curriculum (freshman composition and/or world literature).

Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in English or a closely related area by the August 16, 2009, starting date (ABDs will be considered; however, appointment to the tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor requires the earned doctorate); evidence of successful experience teaching English at the college or university level; graduate course work, a dissertation and/or other evidence of academic preparation in long eighteenth-century British literature and culture; evidence of potential for successful research, publication, and other scholarly/professional activities; evidence of potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in long eighteenth-century British literature and culture and in teaching undergraduate core courses in composition and/or world literature; and evidence of potential for collegial participation in the life and work of the department. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required.

Desirable additional qualifications include expertise in one or more of the following fields: late eighteenth-century literature, gothic literature, print culture, satire, feminist theory, trans-Atlantic studies, cultural studies. Other desirable qualifications: successful experience teaching freshman composition; successful experience teaching world literature.

Assistant Professor | Technical and Professional Communication

The Department of English at Auburn University expects to make one or more appointments in 2009-10 for tenure-track positions as Advanced Assistant Professors or Assistant Professors in Technical and Professional Communication to begin Fall semester 2009. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.

The teaching load is 3-2, and the successful applicants will join four tenured or tenure-track faculty in technical and professional communication and two in composition/rhetoric to teach graduate and undergraduate technical and professional communication courses in a large, supportive department.

Required qualifications include an earned doctorate in technical and professional communication, or a closely related area, by the August 16, 2009 starting date (ABDs may be considered; however, appointment to the tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Professor requires the earned doctorate); evidence of successful experience teaching English at the college or university level; broad knowledge of technical and professional communication, good potential for excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate technical and professional communication courses and in contributing to our well-established Master of Technical and Professional Communication program and our undergraduate minor in technical and professional communication; a promising scholarly agenda, good potential for publication, and good potential as a colleague for taking part in the life and work of the department. The successful candidate must meet eligibility requirements to work in the United States at the time the appointment is scheduled to begin and continue working legally for the proposed term of employment; excellent communication skills required. In addition to meeting the required qualifications stated above, a candidate for appointment at the advanced Assistant Professor level must have at time of application at least two years of full-time experience in a tenure-track position in the field of technical and professional communication (or a closely related area), a substantial record of high-quality scholarly publication, and an ongoing research program.

We are especially interested in innovative scholars with the following desirable qualifications: successful experience in teaching university-level technical and professional communication courses in a computer-supported facility; workplace experience in technical and professional communication; administrative experience.

The Department of English at Auburn University invites applications for the position of Department Head, at the rank of full professor, with appointment beginning August 16, 2009. The term of this appointment is four years, renewable for one term. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply.
