Why Minor in English at Auburn University?
In a professional world that places increasing emphasis on superior communication skills, the Minor in English represents the perfect option for students who enjoy English and are committed to another major. Our diverse range of course offerings in creative writing, linguistics, rhetoric, literature, and technical & professional communication will help you become a better writer, reader, and thinker. English makes the perfect complement to whatever major you have. Once completed, “Minor: English” appears on your transcript. You can return to Auburn to pursue a minor even after you have graduated.
The Minor in Technical and Professional Communication (EPTC) is designed for students who are majoring in programs other than English who want to prepare for careers as technical communicators (writers, editors, publication analysts, information designers, etc.) or for careers in which communication skills are essential. This Minor is an excellent complement to programs in agriculture, business, engineering, forestry, human sciences, physical and natural sciences, and other majors.
Basic facts:
English Minor: The only requirement for the English Minor is 15 credit hours in English with a minimum of 9 credits at the 3000-level or higher. Because there are no required courses in the English Minor, the courses you choose are up to you.
University core requirements (Freshman Composition and World Literature, formerly known as Great Books) do not count for the minor, however, nor can English courses required by your major.
You do not need to have taken World Literature (formerly known as Great Books); for most upper-division English courses, the principal prerequisite is ENGL 1120 or 1127. Some upper-division English courses, though, do require junior standing or other specific prerequisites; check the Undergraduate and Graduate Bulletin for details.
Minor in Technical and Professional Communication: For the Minor in Technical and Professional Communication, 5 courses (15 credit hours) are required. These courses are

- ENGL 5010 Document Design in Technical and Professional Communication (3 hrs)
