Enrolling in World Literature

REGISTRATION

Because every Auburn student must complete the World Literature sequence before graduation, the more than two hundred sections of World Literature offered each year usually fill up during the one-month registration period each semester. Students are therefore encouraged to register early in their designated registration period. As instructors are not assigned to sections until after registration, it is not possible to register for the section of a particular faculty member. To get on a waiting list, see the Schedule Adjustment section below.

The prerequisite for ENGL 2200 is a grade of C or better in ENGL 1120, for ENGL 2207 a grade of C or better in ENGL 1127, for 2210 a grade of D or better in ENGL 2200, and for 2217 a grade of D or better in 2207.

SCHEDULE ADJUSTMENT

Students may add courses online or by telephone from the designated registration dates for each respective term through the first day of that term. Though it is not uncommon during this period to find that particular sections of World Literature are fully enrolled, openings are normally occurring and being filled, so for students who want to enroll for particular sections or times it is a good strategy to check regularly for openings. To make adjustments during the first week of classes, students must complete a waiting list form located on the English Department web site. It is not useful to make enrollment requests of either individual instructors or of the program Coordinator without having been referred by the Department's office associates in 9030 Haley Center.

TRANSFER CREDIT

The sophomore literature sequences at many universities may not serve as equivalent for transfer purposes to Auburn’s broadly focused and historically framed World Literature sequence. It is important for students to obtain prior assurance from their advisors that particular courses taken elsewhere will fulfill Auburn’s core literature requirement. The criteria for equivalency are specified in the University Bulletin, page 13. Advisors will refer uncertain cases to the Coordinator of World Literature, email.
