Research & Teaching Interests: Current research focuses on the transformation of literary and intellectual cultures in early modern China (from 1890s to 1920s), particularly in terms of and against the rise of democratic and evolutionary ideals. Teaching interests include Chinese and Japanese languages, and East Asian literatures, cultures, and films.
