Second Foreign Language Proficiency Examination - Graduate Handbook

A reading knowledge of an additional foreign language is required of master's candidates. This knowledge may be demonstrated by successfully completing an examination administered by the department and may be taken at any time during the student's course of study. This requirement may also be satisfied by the following options :


This requirement may also be satisfied by the following options:

  1. Successfully completing the first-year sequence of another foreign language with a grade of B or better in each course.

  2. Scoring at least in the 35th percentile on the ETS ( Princeton ) Foreign Language Proficiency Examination (see departmental secretary for details).

  3. Successfully completing the reading proficiency course offered by the department with a grade of B . (French: FLFR 1960 or German: FLGR 1990).
