Steve McFarland served Auburn University as Acting Associate Provost for Academic Affairs and Dean of the Graduate School from 2001 to 2006, and as Associate Dean of the Graduate School from 1997 to 2006. His research fields include the history of flight and the history of modern Iran. He is currently researching and writing about the development of high octane aviation gasoline in the 1920s and 1930s. McFarland's most recent publication is a reissue of the award-winning To Command the Sky: The Struggle for Air Superiority over Europe, 1942-1944 (with Wesley P. Newton).
