Claire Wilson, Senior Content Editor of the Encyclopedia of Alabama, has a B.A. in anthropology from the City University of New York and did two years of graduate study in archaeology in the Department of Anthropology at the State University of New York at Binghamton. She has worked on excavations on Long Island, in upstate New York, and in Ireland.
Leery of job prospects with a graduate degree in anthropology, and with a great deal of interest in reading and trivia, she became an editor. Almost twenty years later, she still enjoys it. Her editorial work has centered around the humanities and the sciences, particularly history, geology, and anthropology.
Born and raised in Queens, New York, she seems to have adapted to the South well, but still despises grits.
