The Edna Floyd Booth Graduate Research Award assists graduate students with research and travel. Edna Wellborn Floyd Booth graduated from Birmingham-Southern College in 1927 with a B.A. in elementary education. She taught for ten years with the Jefferson County School System in Birmingham, Alabama. After the birth of her daughter, Barbara Joyce, she suspended her teaching career until 1961. She returned to the Jefferson County School System soon after her daughter's graduation from Auburn, also with a degree in elementary education. As a teacher Mrs. Booth took a special interest in her students' welfare, often buying new clothes for the least fortunate among them. These acts of kindness endeared her to many students over the years. She retired with 24 years of service in 1975. As a member of the Woodlawn United Methodist Church, Women's Club of Alabama, and the United Daughters of the Confederacy she remained acutely aware of her own family history and her responsibility to the community. This award, named in her memory, serves as a lasting tribute to her commitment to education and her family ties.
