Scott came all the way from Calgary, Alberta, Canada to attend Auburn University. He applied to Auburn because of its strength in United States history, particularly the American Civil War in Appalachia. His major field is United States History to 1877, under the supervision of Dr. Kenneth W. Noe. His minor fields are United States since 1877 and Archives, with a breadth field in British history.

Scott received his BA from the University of Manitoba in 1995. After graduate study at Queens College, City University of New York he finished his MA in 2007 at the University of Calgary. His thesis dealt with Kanawha County, West Virginia, during the Civil War.

His first article, titled "The Slaveholders' War: The Secession Crisis in Kanawha County, West Virginia 1860-1861," will be published in the Fall 2010 edition of West Virginia History.

In Fall 2009, Scott assists World History Section 8 (MWF 8:00am-8:50am) taught by Dr. Malczycki. He has office hours on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 9:00am to 10:00am, or by appointment.
