Corey Markum

GTA

  • Bio

Corey hails from the state of Florida (state motto: "Buy a Buick and drive slow!"), and lived in Jacksonville until college. He attended Freed-Hardeman University in Henderson, Tennessee, majoring in History and earning a minor in Philosophy (it seemed like a good idea at the time). After graduating summa cum laude in 2005, he had a brief stint teaching high school before coming to Auburn.

Corey is in his third year in the direct-track PhD program at Auburn. His main interests are in the American Civil War and American religious history. Dr. Kenneth Noe is his advising major professor. Drs. Charles Israel and Donna Bohanan of the history department and Dr. Anthony Carey are his other examining field professors.

Currently, Corey serves as a GTA Captain and as a departmental representative to the Graduate Student Council. He is on the Academic Honesty and the Student Insurance subcommittees within the GSC.

Corey is married to the former Jenny Ary, a Certified Public Accountant who works at the East Alabama Medical Center in Opelika. They have a miniature dachshund named Jackson.
