Carey Cauthen

Carey Cauthen is associate editor of The Alabama Review. She holds a B.A. in history from The American University, where she concentrated her studies on why the French embarked on a series of decapitations in 1789. Her other History Department duties include maintaining the department website and producing its newsletter.

Carey grew up in Birmingham and attended Indian Springs School before relocating to Washington, D.C. She worked at Thompson Publishing Group and Pace Publications after graduation, focusing on regulatory and business reporting and serving as editor of The Employer's Guide to Fringe Benefit Rules and the Employer's Handbook: Complying with IRS Employee Benefits Rules. She also did a stint as a volunteer at the National Air and Space Museum's Star Wars: The Magic of Myth exhibit. A fan of science fiction and fantasy, Carey won the Science Fiction Channel's first fantasy short-story contest.
