- Education
Christopher Ferguson received his BA (1999) from St. Olaf College, and his MA (2002) and PhD (2008) from Indiana University. His dissertation, "Inventing the Modern City: Urban Culture and Ideas in Britain, 1780-1880," analyzes the tension in British culture between concepts of the city as a generic and a locally distinctive environmental type, and its consequences for British national identity. Dr. Ferguson teaches courses in modern British, European, and World history. His current research focuses on perceptions of the city and urban life in Britain during the eighteenth, nineteenth, and twentieth centuries, and on the nineteenth-century sonic landscape.
