Charles Wexler has just finished his first year as a PhD student at Auburn University. Hailing from just outside of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he received a BA in History in 2006 from Temple University, with a focus in military history. In 2008, he received an MA in History from the Joint Masters Program offered by The College of Charleston and The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina. His master's thesis examined Charleston's first two Confederate Ironclads, the CSS Chicora and the CSS Palmetto State, along with Confederate Naval strategy in 1862 Charleston. He hopes to continue looking into the Confederate Navy in his dissertation. Charles' research interests include military, naval, urban, and sports history, and his major field is American History to 1865.
