Ralph Brown Draughon Library and Regional Research Facilities
Auburn University's Ralph Brown Draughon Library has a 2.2 million-volume library with excellent collections in historical subjects. The library is accredited by the American Association of Research Libraries. Included in its holdings are large newspaper and microfilm collections, and long runs of journals in significant research areas. The library also has major data bases and access to a variety of other online resources through the internet. The library's Special Collections and Archives Department is a repository for documents relating to the university, local history, and the history of the South.
In nearby Montgomery, the United States Air Force Historical Research Agency has one of the country's largest collections in air and space history, and the Alabama State Department of Archives and History has extensive collections of local, state, and regional interest. In Atlanta, Georgia Tech, Emory, the National Archives Southeast Regional location, and the Jimmy Carter Presidential Library have excellent research facilities. Auburn has formal and informal working relationships with these institutions that prospective students will find valuable.
Draughon Reference librarian Tim Dodge (dodgeti@auburn.edu, 844-1729), history subject specialist, has compiled on the following two web pages an extensive on-line research guide for both non-United States and United States history including reference tools, indexes and databases, journals, web sites, research guides, associations and societies, and discussion lists and newsgroups:
