The AU Brass Ensemble is comprised of all music majors and minors from within the three teaching studios within the Brass Area: Trumpet, Horn and Low Brass. The primary purpose of this ensemble is to expose the students of the Brass Area to the performance realm of the large Brass Ensemble. This ensemble can also be augmented with percussion instruments. With a wide array of music to perform spanning over 4 centuries, both original and transcription, the ensemble can be as large or small as deemed appropriate by the selections chosen. This provides the students an opportunity to study music from the Renaissance Era of music to today.
Current instrumentation includes (but is not limited to) 8 trumpets, 4 horns, 4 trombones, 4 euphoniums and 3 tubas. Smaller chamber groups are selected from within large ensemble. These can be instrument specific ensembles (horns quartets, trumpet ensembles, trombone quartets, tuba-euphonium ensembles) as well as mixed instrument ensembles. These ensembles can be small brass trios (trumpet, horn, trombone), quartets (two trumpets, horn, trombone) or quintets (two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba).
There is no audition requirement for this group. Acceptance into the group is made solely by approval of the applied private instructor on your instrument.
