WHERE & WHEN
Auditions for the Auburn University Concert Choir (a.k.a. Chamber Choir), Gospel Choir, Women's Chorus and Men's Chorus occur August 13-14 for incoming students and any current students who missed the audition dates in April 2009. These ten-minute auditions occur in 114 Goodwin Music Building by appointment. Walk-ins are also welcome. Contact Dr. William Powell (powelwc@auburn.edu or 334-844-3166) to schedule an audition time.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Unless noted otherwise, students are assessed in the following areas for each of the choral groups:
Solo (piano and CD player available)
Note: The style of the solo should be in accordance with the
style of the ensemble.
Vocal Range
Pitch-matching
Tonal memory
Intonation
Voice quality
Sight reading
Choreography (taught during audition - Auburn University Singers only)
Movement: clapping and swaying while singing (Gospel Choir only)
Scales: major, minor, chromatic, and whole tone (Concert Choir only)
Note: Students should be prepared to sing scales in harmony with the same scale being played on the piano, but in a different key (Concert Choir only).
COURSE ENROLLMENT
If possible, prior to the audition, students are encouraged to enroll in the ensemble course(s) for which they plan to audition. Doing so facilitates communication and helps anticipate potential class size when preparing course materials. The course numbers are listed below for the respective ensembles. Students will receive one hour of academic credit per group, per semester. Students will be notified of the status of their audition via e-mail prior to the first day of classes, thus allowing students to make any necessary schedule adjustments due to the audition results. Note: Students lose the ability to add courses to their schedules via AU Access/Tiger-i beginning on the first day of classes.

UNIVERSITY SINGERS (Show Choir)
Auditions for the Auburn University Singers occur during Camp War Eagle sessions for incoming students. These auditions occur on the second day of Camp War Eagle (Thursday or Monday) in 114 Goodwin Music Building between 12:00 noon and 1:30 p.m. on a first-come, first-served basis. Current university students are also welcome to audition during the Camp War Eagle sessions. The next opportunity to audition for the University Singers is in mid-April.
SCHOLARSHIPS?
Please be aware that the vocal scholarship audition is completely separate from the choral audition. Therefore, vocal students who are interested in being considered for a vocal scholarship should apply for a scholarship audition. There are currently NO scholarships offered for participation in any of the choral ensembles at Auburn University.
