The Symphonic Band is the premiere performing ensemble in the Auburn University Band Program. It is conducted by the Director of Bands, Dr. Johnnie Vinson. A select group of 70 players, the Symphonic Band performs a broad and diverse repertoire of standard and contemporary band literature along with occasional transcriptions. In recent years, this group has performed numerous times for Alabama Bandmasters Association and Alabama Music Educators Association events, and has undertaken tours within the state each spring. In March, 1999, the band performed for the 65th Annual Convention of the American Bandmasters Association.

Membership in the Symphonic Band is by audition and is open to any Auburn student regardless of major. Auditions are held during the spring and summer for the following year. Additional auditions are held near the end of fall semester for the spring semester as openings occur.

The Symphonic Band rehearses two times per week during fall semester and five times per week during spring semester.

One hour of academic credit is awarded for participation. This credit may be used as an elective in any curriculum. Members of the Symphonic Band supply their own formal attire for concerts. There is no other cost except tuition.
