Facilities
The Auburn University Department of Music is housed in Goodwin Hall, a facility made possible through the generosity of the James. W. Goodwin family of Birmingham, AL. Constructed in 1974, Goodwin Hall is 56,459 square feet dedicated to music instruction.
At the forward entrance of the building stands Monody, a sculpture built by Jean Woodham and donated to the department in 1976. The piece is crafted of copper blanks hammered into shape. Originally golden in color, the artist intended the natural process of weathering to transform Monody into its current state.
The Harvard Dictionary of Music defines "Monody" as: Music consisting of a single melodic line.
Auburn University also maintains an extensive collection of recordings, scores, and other music resources on the second floor of Draughon Library.
