Programs of Study
Undergraduate
The Department of Music in the College of Liberal Arts offers an undergraduate program that leads to the degree of Bachelor of Arts in Music (Performance). In collaboration with the College of Education, we offer the Bachelor of Music Education degree (instrumental, vocal, and instrumental/vocal combined programs). Additionally, students may complete course work that leads to a Minor in Music.
Scholarships and graduate assistantships are available for campus-based students from the Music Department and the Department of Curriculum and Teaching. All graduate and undergraduate degrees are approved by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM). The B.M.E. degree is approved by the Alabama State Board of Education and the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE).
In each program, students are engaged in a variety of musical and academic concentrations, including private instruction, individual performance, large and small ensemble participation, and music academic classes. Our highly skilled faculty of performers and conductors teach students to expect excellence in all aspects of performance and practice, giving them the tools necessary to achieve this expectation and accomplish their musical goals. Many of our performance faculty teach academic music courses as well, helping bridge the gap between the classroom and the stage. Whether a student wants to be a performer, conductor, educator or any combination, they can learn the skills necessary to navigate through the opportunities and obstacles that await them.
