Department of Political Science

Welcome to the Department of Political Science

We are part of the College of Liberal Arts and share in the goal of helping our students become well-rounded, effective, and successful members of the global community.  Political Science is a vast academic discipline that focuses on the processes and outcomes of collective public decision making.  We endeavor to create a stimulating intellectual environment that challenges students to broaden their capacity for a reasoned analysis of political life.

The Political Science Department has twenty-two dedicated professors, who hold doctoral and law degrees from the nation’s most prestigious universities.  Our professors have won countless College, University, and even national teaching awards.  The research and scholarship of our professors is well respected by the national and international political science communities.

The Department offers three undergraduate majors: Political Science (POLI), Public Administration (PUBA), and Health Administration (HADM).  Students who wish to choose to major in a different academic discipline yet still develop a secondary expertise in government and politics can minor in political science.  The Political Science Department is home to the Pre-Law Scholars Program.  We also offer two courses that satisfy the Social Science II requirement in the University Core Curriculum.  At the graduate level, we offer a masters degree in public administration (M.P.A.), and a Ph.D. degree in public administration and policy.

Our web site contains an assortment of information about us, our programs, the University, and the discipline of Political Science.  We provide links to some very interesting web sites.  We also maintain waiting lists for many of our courses.

We wish all who enter here the very best professional and personal success.  Let us know if we can help.
