Internships
INTERNSHIP PROCEDURES
All of the following procedures are required for ALL students who plan to intern in the Health Administration Program. Students who fail to complete any of the requirements below will NOT be allowed to intern.
- Contact the internship coordinator, Jennifer Johnson by mid semester prior to intended internship.
- Schedule a meeting with the Internship Coordinator by mid semester prior to intended internship to discuss internship options and receive a copy of the Internship Handbook. Students should discuss their prospective internships with the Internship Coordinator prior to contacting any organizations.
- Submit an official copy of college transcript to the Internship Coordinator by the end of the semester prior to interning.
- The following qualifications must be met in order for a student to intern.
- Completion of 5 HADM courses
- HADM official declared as major
- Junior status
- Minimum GPA of 2.8 in HADM coursework
- 18 years of age or older.
- Arrange for a “mock interview” with Career Services. Download the Career Services Form and have the counselor from Career Services sign verifying your attendance.
- Contact at least two possible internship sites for an interview. Write up a summary describing who was contacted, why you chose those particular sites, what happened in the interview/conversation, why you chose one site over another. Be sure to obtain business cards from each site.
- Send thank-you notes to all your internship interview sites. DO NOT email a thank you note. This is considered unprofessional. Make a copy of all thank you notes to submit to Internship Coordinator.
- Once you have decided on an internship site complete the Internship Information Form. This form MUST be completed prior to the pre-internship meeting.
- Finally every student MUST attend one of the pre-internship meetings scheduled by the Internship Coordinator. Each student is required to submit the Career Services Form, interview summaries, and a copy of all thank you notes at this meeting. Numbers 5, 6, and 7 above MUST be completed prior to and submitted at the internship meeting in order for a student to intern.
