Prerequisites

The ratio of applicants to the number of available positions in the graduate program has been high nationally for clinical psychology programs. At Auburn, typically there are about 170 completed applications per year. Over the past few years, the size of the incoming class has ranged from 6 to 9. See Program Statistics for detailed information. Applicants to the program are expected to take the GRE (Verbal, Quantitative, Writing; the Advanced Subject test is optional). Most new students have GREs with scores averaging 560 Verbal and 650 Quantitative. Applicants are expected to have performed well in basic areas of psychology through undergraduate psychology courses. Courses in methodology and statistics are particularly important. The typical successful candidate also has been involved in research and applied settings. In addition, common interests with core clinical faculty members are an important determinant in the program's decision to invite applicants for an on-campus interview, consistent with our mentoring approach. Thus, multiple factors influence the applicant's status.
