Professor Edwards has three broad areas of research interest. One area of Professor Edwards' research pertains to issues of testing in the context of selection and training evaluation. This line of research includes a series of studies examining efforts at reducing race-based subgroup differences in test performance. A second area of research interest is an examination of factors that influence team functioning and effectiveness. For instance, Professor Edwards has published studies that focus on how to select and train for effective team performance in complex, dynamic aviation environments. A third research program considers issues of stress, health, and safety at multiple levels of analysis, including the individual, team, and organizational levels. Studies along this line of research include an investigation of predictors of vehicular accidents such as aggressive driving and distractions via multi-tasking. Another series of studies examines organizational climate change interventions to increase task performance and decrease occupational accidents via regulatory focus. Another example of research in this area is a study examining the impact of job control, job stress, and motivation on safety performance.
